Ventilation & degassing
Fumigation clearance & ventilation services in The Baltic States
One very important part of the fumigation process is venting and degassing. When you choose a fumigation contractor, you need to ensure that they have all the qualifications, tools and techniques necessary to properly vent and degas any vessel, container and all types of cargo.
At PELIAS, we are licensed, certified, insured and qualified fumigation, ventilation and degassing professionals serving the Baltic States.
As part of the degassing service, our supervisors verify the degassing process, marking the date, time, and duration of the process. The supervision also includes monitoring fumigant concentration, which will let us know if we need to provide additional ventilation. Upon completion, we provide full documentation of the process in our official certification form.
Once at the destination, a qualified operator will provide fumigation clearance services, which is required for safe discharging and this also conforms to marine fumigation efficacy.
The common fumigation clearance checklist is as follows:
- Cargo degassing (passive or forced venting)
- Concentration measurement (instrumental)
- Removal of residue materials
- Certification (Gas Fee or Clearance)
When the rules of the destination country do not allow the degassing process in the port of destination, PELIAS provides cargo degassing and monitors the effectiveness of the services while in the transit port.
Being an IMFO member, PELIAS can offer complete services, worldwide, from any source or destination. In fact, we can meet a ship upon arrival at most discharge ports, check the gas levels, and go through the venting procedure before the ship is discharged.
For more than 15 years, PELIAS has established a reputation for an ability to offer customized fumigation, ventilation and degassing services. Our clients are pleased that our gas monitoring and degassing services, while in the supply, deter delays and the associated extra costs.
As a GAFTA-approved fumigator and IMFO member, we comply with the applicable guidelines and recommendations.

Gas Free Certificate (Fumigation Clearance Certificate)
The document PELIAS gives to our clients upon the completion of the degassing process is called the Fumigation Clearance Certificate (or Gas Free Certificate). Often, the process will occur just prior to reaching the destination, which means you will have the certificate indicating safe levels of fumigant upon arrival. This means workers will be able to gain access to the areas and offload them in a timely manner.
The following are the factors that PELIAS experts take into account when deciding the order and speed of aeration:
- Concentration of fumigant inside the enclosure
- Fumigant ventilation requirements
- Volume of the enclosure in which the fumigation took place
- Weather conditions, including temperature, humidity, wind speed and direction
- Proximity to buildings in which people live
After considering all of these factors, the degassing process can be completed and the remaining residue disposed of. The Gas Free Clearance Certificate can then be shown to the port authorities at the destination for the all-clear.
Qualified gas clearance service provider across ports of Klaipeda, Liepaja, Ventspils, Riga, Tallinn, Paarnu, Muuga, and Sillamae
There are many risks involved in the fumigation process affecting shipping vessels and containers of all types. To minimize risks that impact receiving parties of these cargoes, PELIAS employees are licensed professionals, trained and experienced in all aspects of fumigation and degassing services.
